Mellon nin and welcome to Barliman’s Book Nook! If you’re here, that means you’re probably a fellow lover of J.R.R. Tolkien’s works, or at the very least, curious about the fascinating world of his letters. Either way, I’m glad to have you here.

This blog is a cosy corner where I’ll explore a side of Tolkien that is often overshadowed by his famous tales of hobbits, elves, and epic adventures: his letters. Tolkien’s letters offer a glimpse into his thoughts, personality, and creative process, and through them we can gain a deeper understanding of the man behind Middle-earth.

Here at Barliman’s Book Nook, I’'ll be diving into Tolkien’s published letters, picking out interesting details, and sharing reflections. We’ll look at how these letters shed light on his writing, his faith, his friendships, his philosophy on life. I hope this space will become a place for thoughtful discussion, where we can explore Tolkien’s world together in a more intimate and reflective way.

In time, I may expand into other aspects of Tolkien’s work, but for now, I’m starting with the letters. I think there’s something quite special about hearing directly from an author in their own words —like finding a forgotten letter in the loft that adds a new layer to a story you thought you knew well.
